The village belongs to Gredos Northern region and it is 1,518 m. high. It´s located at 50 km. of Avila, and 170 km from Madrid, in the foothills of the Gredos Massif Central. Because of its geographical location and road network, is perfectly communicated with other cities of central importance: Talavera de la Reina, Segovia, Valladolid, Toledo, Salamanca... Both climate and landscape is typically high mountain, which is characterized by a wide plain at the foot of the river, where the village takes its name from, as well as numerous pastures of great amplitude and beauty, meadows and mountains.
The village has a deeply rooted farming heritage activity as the basis of its economy. Fundamentally, primary sector is the basic economy of the town, with livestock being predominant. This also means that currently, the typical popular architecture of this traditional village is: narrow streets with masonry stone buildings.
